Looking Back: May to July 2026

Rainfall
  • The transition into the Wet Season was drier than usual in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, northern parts of coastal Belize, Grand Cayman, Central Cuba, northeast Dominica, southwest Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, central French Guiana, Haiti, far western and southeast Jamaica, Leeward Islands, northeast Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and St. Vincent, where drought was observed.
  • By the end of July, severe (or worse) short-term drought had developed in Antigua, the Northern & Northwest Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Martinique, southwest Puerto Rico, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent and Tobago. Severe (or worse) long-term drought was observed in Grand Cayman, Grenada, southwest Jamaica, Martinique, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent, southwest French Guiana, Tobago, and far northern Trinidad.
Temperature
  • The first half of the 2026 Heat Season was as warm as usual or up to 2.5°C warmer than usual in most places, including two locations in The Bahamas reporting their hottest May to July period on record.
