Looking Back: February to April 2026

Rainfall
  • The peak of the Dry Season was very dry in parts of Saint Lucia and St. Vincent, whereas it was very wet in central & southern Bahamas, Eastern Cuba, Dominica, southwest Guadeloupe, northern interior of Guyana, Hispaniola, western Jamaica, US Caribbean Territories.
  • Severe (or worse) short-term drought has developed in parts of Western Cuba, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent.
  • Severe (or worse) long term drought has developed in Aruba, Grand Cayman, parts of Western Cuba, Grenada, Martinique, southeast Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent, and southeast Suriname.
Temperature
  • The transition out of the annual Cool Season after February and into the Heat Season occurred at the usual time – i.e., around April in the western half of the region and around early-May in the eastern half of the Caribbean region.
  • Aruba, most areas in the Guianas, the Northern Bahamas, western Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Vincent were 0.25-1.5ºC warmer than usual. By contrast, eastern parts of Barbados, central Belize, Grand Cayman, Guadeloupe, and the area surrounding Timehri in Guyana were slightly cooler than usual.
