Looking Back: May to July 2025

Rainfall
  • The transition into the Wet Season was drier than usual in portions of The Bahamas, Belize and Cuba, where drought was observed.
  • By the end of August, severe (or worse) short-term drought has developed in the Northwestern Bahamas, southwest Belize, Grand Cayman, Central, northern and southeasternmost Cuba and in St. Vincent. Severe (or worse) long-term drought was observed in the Northwestern Bahamas, southwest Belize, Central Cuba, northern parts of the Dominican Republic and St. Barts.
  • By contrast, Grand Cayman and northernmost Guyana were record wet.
Temperature
  • The first half of the 2025 Heat Season was as warm as usual or up to 1°C warmer than usual in most places, including one location in The Bahamas reporting its hottest May to July period on record.
  • By contrast; Antigua, Guadeloupe, southeast Jamaica, eastern Puerto Rico and St. Croix were slightly cooler than usual.
