Looking Back: August to October 2025

Rainfall
  • The peak of the wet season was wetter than usual in the Central & Northwestern Bahamas, far Eastern and far Western Cuba, central Jamaica, southeast Trinidad and southern Guyana.
  • Short-term drought developed in Aruba, Guadeloupe, parts of northern Guyana, southern Barbados and in the majority of the Windward Islands.
Temperature
  • The second half of the Caribbean Heat Season featured air temperatures close to 1°C warmer than usual in the Northern and Northwestern Bahamas, Curaçao, Barbados, Grand Cayman, central Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, the Windward Islands.
  • Correspondingly, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, 1 location in French Guiana, 1 in Guyana, 2 in Puerto Rico, 1 in Saint Lucia and 2 in Suriname reported record-breaking August to October mean temperatures.
  • Furthermore, the frequency of days spent in hot spells was far higher than usual in leeward sections of Barbados, the Windward Islands and Puerto Rico, leading to frequent and prolonged episodes of heat stress.
  • By contrast, parts of northern Guyana, southeast Jamaica and St. Croix were slightly cooler than usual.
