Let’s revisit the last forecast period to explore actual rainfall and temperature occurrences.
Here’s what occurred in August-September-October 2023:
Rainfall
- The peak of the wet season was wetter than usual in Western Cuba.
- Short-term drought developed in Belize, French Guiana, Guyana, and Suriname.
Temperature
- The second half of the record-breaking Caribbean Heat Season featured some of the highest seasonal temperatures ever observed across most areas, breaking all-time daily, monthly and/or seasonal records in many locations.
- Correspondingly, the frequency of heatwave days was far higher than usual, leading to frequent and prolonged episodes of heat stress.
